Men With Brooms...

One of our fun adventures this past holiday was to go curling with the gang from Chatham. I don't think that most of us had ever really curled before (with the exception of phys ed classes) so, for the most part, we were going at it inexperienced!!! The Smits, The Brinkmans, The Alexanders and two sets of Smyths gathered for a fun filled evening of rock throwing and ice sweeping!!!

While this new sport did come as a bit of a challenge, I think that most of us would agree that an annual Bonspiel is in order!

I think that it's also worth mentioning that the Smyths basically rocked the scoreboard (even if Kelly and I slacked a bit in the sweeping department!!)!! Yeah Smyths!!!

Good on you Gen for trying something different. I think I tried curling once, ya, in London and I spent most of my time holding myself upright with my third leg......the broom!

Gen!

I can't believe you found me after all these years. It was so great to hear from you on my blog, and to catch up with what has been going on in your life through the pages of this blog. Wow, your wedding was stunning. You made such a beautiful bride.
I am so glad that you are happy and well and only two hours away! Daniel and I have been talking about heading up to Ottawa when the ice freezes to try out our skates. We will have to pop by the National Gallery or catch you and Steve on an evening off.

Blessings,
heidi

Oh, and what happened to Marvin? I still have scars to testify to his existance.

Hello Heidi,
Marvin came to visit Gen's mom(me) who lives on Haida Gwaii off the coast of beautiful BC in April/May 2001. He had a wonderful time checking out the eagles and climbing monumental cedar trees. After Gen moved into her quaint little place on Laurier Marvin made the long trip back to Ottawa via air mail to take up residence with a single Gen.
Then along came Steve. Marvin and Steve did not enjoy each others company much. After Steve got brutualized Marvin was sent packing once again to Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands. He lives a lazy life, bullying his housemate and roaming the beaches looking for raven, eagles and anything that looks edible! He is big and cranky (takes after is adopted mom) but happy!
Smiles and Happy New Year

Well Heidi, my mother has summed it right!! Can you believe it?!? I never thought I'd see the day when a man would come along and surpass the ranks of Marvin!!!

"Sent packing" is really the best way to put it!!! To this day, Steve takes pride in his victory (though I'm quite sure that he still has nightmares about it every now and then!!!).

Good luck with the skating!! I'm sure that much like Kingston, winter has stayed at arm's length so far!! Come visit anyway though...we'll get a suntan as we walk along the very unfrozen canal!!!

Thanks Mom for putting the story so eloquantly!!!

Love you!

Gen and Mom,

I laughed out loud at the tale of Marvin. Ok, I haven't met Steve, but in my eyes he is already a hero. When we lived on Sandy Hill Gen would leave the room for a minute and Marvin would escape, and for some reason he really liked sitting under my bed swatting my ankles. I still think the fact that I cannot run is because he weakened them. I am glad that he is fat and cranky though, the world wouldn't be the same without Marvin terrorizing someone!
Give him a pat for me, if you dare!

All this Marvin talk is cracking me up!!! I almost forgot how much he entertained our lives! (though the best felines usually do!!).

Heidi, check out my mom's blog...she put up some great pics of Marvin (inspired by our chats) just so we wouldn't forget!!!
