One month from today, Steve and I will be leaving Ottawa en route to Australia. Actually, we will be going from Ottawa to Tilbury to Detroit to Texas to Los Angeles…and then to Sydney! No one said that Kangaroos came easily!!

For one month, we will be leaving our world of work and moves and deadlines to go see this…

And this…

And this…

And, of course...these...

Not only are we in for the trip of a lifetime but, upon our return, I’ll be able to cross one more thing off of my “List of 100 things to do before I die” (or as Hollywood has dubbed it… “The Bucket List”). I’ve always wanted to visit Australia and look up at the Southern Cross, and pretty soon, we’ll be doing just that (with two schedualed visits with astronomers for some up close and personal visits!!!).

Also, we’ve just confirmed that we’ll be doing a road trip through the Outback. We’ll fly into Alice Springs, rent a car (I’m hoping that it’s complete with snake bite kits and Dingo repellant gear!!!) and spend the next four days driving through the deserts of Australia to see the likes of Ayers Rock, the Olgas and King’s Canyon.

With this being said…we have one very important thing left to do…

We need to fill our iPod with the very best “Outback Road Trip” Tunes!!! If you’re going to go on the ultimate road trip on the other side of the world…you’ve got to do it right (and you’ve got to it Canuck style!)!!!

So what do you think?? What tunes can we simply not leave without??? Any suggestions??

Gen,

i cant do without Bob Segar's Greatest Hits for very long. The entire album would be a good one. You guys have a safe and fun trip. Have you ever posted your "bucket list"? It would be interesting to do and get some feedback from othes on their own lists. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement on my blog and the book recommendation - i purchased it this weekend!
BTW, it is 70 degrees F today in Kentucky!

OH. MY.

That's amazing, Gen! So, so exciting. :D I'm sure you two will have a blast.

In terms of tunes, every time I hear "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane, I think of open spaces, so maybe that one.

Also, if you can find tunes by the Aussie band Powderfinger, they'd be great for a trip to the southern hemisphere (especially the tracks "On My Mind" and "Pockets" - I can email you both, if you'd like - just let me know).

Roberta and I have done our fair share of LONG road trips. Here are some of our suggestions. Buy a Wal-mart special Billboards Top Hits from 1984 (year of your choice) and don't unwrap it until you absolutely need it (for us it was at 4am on the TransCanada highway somewhere in Saskatchewan). Other sing-a-long song favourites are: 500 miles and Cap in Hand ("I can say Saskatchewan without starting to stutter") by the Proclaimers, any Great Big Sea, Innocent Man by Billy Joel (you can have some crazy loud sing-a-long time), The Gambler by Kenny Rogers, Sweet Home Alabama, any CCR, Walkin' on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves... We can go on if needed. Just let us know.

Lotsa Love
Heather and Roberta

Lucky lucky lucky!!!!!!!

I'm going to say "Keep on rocking in the free world" by the great Canadian Neil Young! Preferably the live version - personal favorite :)

Another great artist is Xavier Rudd. Has a bit of an Aussie feel to it (not that I know what Aussie feel is).

Wow...you guys are good! I think it's fair to say that we have a good start here!

I think we need to add "Free Falling" by Tom Petty!

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

p.s. I didn't know that Powderfinger was from Australia! Man, they have all the best stuff over there! Except us, of course ;)
